Default Digg Effect

What are BuyHttp/MH/JH's policies on the "Digg Effect".

Granted I have several hundred gigs of bandwidth to me. But a Digg hit can easily be terra's.

Note: "The Digg Effect" is the new "being SlashDotted" for those that are sure what The Digg Effect is. And for those that don't know what being SlashDotted is. It is when (from the Wiki) "phenomenon of a popular website linking to a smaller site, causing the smaller site to slow down or even temporarily close due to the increased traffic . . . sites are unable to cope with the huge increase in traffic and become unavailable – either their bandwidth is consumed or their servers fail to cope with the high number of requests."

The short answer is we do what is necessary for the health and stability of the server. For a longer answer see your support ticket.

Thanks

Thanks.

I only brought it up because of what happended to Adam Chritian over at "The MacCast" (http://www.maccast.com).

His host (GoDaddy) yanked him for a digg. But the big deal was that GD did not notifiy him. He found out after a couple of days when his users contcted him.

Not that I have any sites at this time the will probably get dugg.

Any time we need to suspend a site, even if it's just for a couple minutes, we notify the site owner immediately to work out a course of action.

GoDaddy shared accounts aren't any good if you get digged. They have a server bandwidth spike clause I'm pretty sure.

Some hosts get upset about traffic spikes like that though, especially if they're being billed for bandwidth on an average.
